ABOUT – Who We Are

IGAN IS

IGAN is currently located in Seattle, Washington, USA.   As the hub of a global organization, IGAN’s staff will remain small.   IGAN will provide information and resources directly to artists and through regional and local organizations that share IGAN’s mission.

How this all began–

A month long trip to Australia that ended in early 2012 was the starting point. Inspired by the Aboriginal art I saw, there was a moment of insight. I felt compelled to pursue the idea. I simply could not dismiss it. I could visualize how magnificent it would be to interpret that work into glass art. My interest in glass goes back 25-years. Living in Seattle, the world center for glass art, and the connections I had made through the years, put me in the precise place to explore the idea.

A major show at the Seattle Art Museum about Aboriginal Art and the first glass art show, LINKS dedicated to introducing Australian glass artists to the US happened over the next few months. The convergence was a powerful signal the time was right to test my idea.

I have reached out globally to artists, collectors, museums, students, educational institutions and asked about the idea of forming a new organization dedicated to fostering indigenous art in glass. The support was universal and it resonated particularly with glass artists in Australia.
